These photos are taken by volunteers and staff of Future Kampung and our partner Hidden Jakarta. All images are taken with the consent of the people and communities depicted. We do not photograph to sensationalise poverty, but to show the humanity, resilience and culture of the kampung residents.

Jakarta's kampungs are vibrant, close-knit communities full of culture and history. Our photos show the daily reality: families eating together, children playing and learning, women running their small businesses, and men maintaining their neighbourhoods. This is the real Jakarta that most tourists never see.
